Society and reading: The Chekhov Book Festival in Taganrog

From May 14 to May 17, 2014 in Taganrog for the eighth time is held the Chekhov Book Festival. The main purpose of the festival – is to attract cultural community to the name of the great Russian writer, as well as through creative meetings, discussions, master-classes, book exhibitions,  educational lectures to present a book and to talk about literature in the widest spectrum – classical and most modern, original, and translated, prose, poetry and drama for all ages of readers.

The program of the VIII Chekhov Book Festival is designed for adults, and children of all ages.

As in past years the A. P. Chekhov Central City Library hosts the exhibition of new books from Russian publishing houses, as part of which will be presented a specials book exposition, dedicated to the year of Culture in Russia, and the Art Gallery will host the exhibition of illustrations to the works by William Shakespeare “Visual poetry”, dedicated to the 450th anniversary of the great English playwright and poet. 

The Gorky Central City Children’s Library during 2 days will host “Children’s playground”, the program includes meetings with children’s authors and master-classes.

An important aspect of all programs of the festivals was professional events as well. This year it will be a seminar on “What today's children read: opinions of adult experts” for parents, educators, sociologists, psychologists, librarians.

Totally, at 36 thematic areas of the city in festival days will be held more than 50 events. The organizer is the Foundation “Pushkin Library” (Moscow).
