Libraries and society: The National Library Week “The library opens up new horizons” in Bulgaria

12-16 May 2014 in Bulgaria is held the National Library Week under the slogan "The library opens up new horizons".

May 12 in Sofia took place the opening ceremony of the Week and the annual award of the Bulgarian Library and Information Association (BLIA). Also on May 12 at the University of Sofia was held the Second International Student Conference "Cloud technologies and their use in libraries". On the same day in the lobby of the National Library exhibition opened the exhibition "May holidays of the Orthodox calendar".

May 13 in the Library of American Centre in Sofia is held the Round table on the issues of reading. 

May 14 will be announced two books, received the National Award for best children's book "The Magic Necklace". In the evening it will be held an event "Literary Night".

May 15 in the Sofia underground station will be open the exhibition "Writers in photographs".

An important addition to the week will be a call for proposals for the development of readers and library modernization, which they use. By the end of May, the libraries will analyze and summarize the proposals and report about them to the authorities or parent organizations. BLIA based on generalized proposals will prepare a paper to be published at the website of the Association.
