Russian regions: The annual project “Provincial heritage. Architecture of the Kaluga region” in Moscow
The editorial board of the magazine “Our Heritage” and the State Institute of Art present an annual project "Provincial Heritage". This is a collection of photographs of monuments. The objective of the project is to explore every historic building of every city of our country, to collect photo archive, to form and publish it on the basis of the encyclopedia by regions.
This time the exhibition features architecture of the Kaluga region. The material was collected by the expedition members for about ten years. Over the years they studied in detail the monuments of the period from the end of XVII to XIX century. These are church, the bell tower, fragments of buildings, bridges and arches. Architectural value of some of them was re-opened. This is the Kazan church in the village Bogorodskoe of the beginning of the XVIII century with a wonderful white stone decor and the Resurrection Church in the village Plokhino, built in the Italian style.
"In the XX century, we have lost 50 to 90 percent of churches of country estates of urban development, - says a senior specialists of the State Institute of Art Ekaterina Shorban. – The urban development actively collapses under the pressure of building fever, we all see it in Moscow and other cities, so our work is extremely important for all countries to save just a memory".
