Exhibitions: Exposition “The Glory of Russian weapons in tin miniature” in Oranienbaum

17 June 2014

June 10, 2014 in the pavilion "Kammenoe zalo" of the branch "Oranienbaum" (the State Museum-Reserve "Peterhof") officially opened the exhibition "The Glory to Russian weapons in tin miniature", prepared by the State Museum-Reserve "Peterhof" in conjunction with the A. V. Suvorov State Memorial Museum.

The exhibition in the format of two models and ten dioramas from the collection of the A. V. Suvorov State Museum presents samples of pewter miniatures illustrating the various stages of the Russian military history, from the Battle of the Neva in 1240 and ending with the events of the Great Patriotic War. Unique military track-record time reconstructions show feats of Russian soldiers: the Neva and the Battle of Kulikovo, the Sheinovo-Shipka battle, the Brusilov Offensive, the defense of Stalingrad and others.

The objects presented in the exhibition open an interesting page of Leningrad history of collecting and production of military and historical miniatures. The collection of tin miniature of the A. V. Suvorov State Museum owes its existence to two Leningrad collectors – M. V. Lyushkovsky and A. I. Lyubimov. After their death the collection came to the museum, and a group of researchers and enthusiasts in 1968 formed a military-historical club, later converted into a club of military history at the A. V. Suvorov Museum of Miniatures. The participants in this club in 1970-1980s created dioramas presented today at the exhibition in Oranienbaum.
