Exhibitions: New exhibition project “Palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich in the graphics of the 19th century” in Kolomenskoe

3 June 2014

From June 3 to August 24, 2014 in the transitions of the Palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich (the Moscow United Museum-Reserve) opened the exhibition "Palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich in the graphics of the 19th century".

In 1830s, an unknown artist carried out a series of gouaches depicting four facades of the Kolomna palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich - the main residence of the first Romanovs. The main source for the reconstruction of the architectural features of the palace were the prints from the book of the leader of Expedition of the Kremlin buildings Peter Stepanovich Valuev (1843-1814) "Historical information from the chronicles and legends of domestic stories about Kolomenskoye accession species and drawing the internal layout of the ancient royal palace with towers until 1767 located there, and two of the palace churches, erected several centuries and hitherto existing" (M., 1809). Some copies of the book of P. S. Valuev include prints, painted in watercolor.

An unknown artist of 1830s offered his own interpretation of color gamut of the palace and painted a series of towers, painted “brick”. Perhaps, after more than a century after the dismantling the palace he thought they were brick.

An unknown artist populated suburbs of the palace with pedestrians and equestrian characters: boyars, nobles, archers and peasants.

These works can be seen at the opened exhibition.
