Russian culture abroad: The Festival of Russian Culture opens in Japan

Having become traditional the Festival of Russian Culture starts on June 2, 2014 in the Japanese capital Tokyo. The solemn opening ceremony was attended by the chairman of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin, special representative of the President of the Russian Federation on International cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi, as well as the ambassador of Russia in Japan Eugene Afanasiev.

The program of the Festival of Russian culture in Japan this year starts with the presentation of the opera soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre Maria Maksakova, as well as exhibitions of photographs of Japan of the Meiji period (1868-1912) from the collection of the Russian collector Paul Khoroshilov.

In the period from June to December in various parts of Japan will be held performances by Russian music groups and ensembles of the Russian folk song, there will be open exhibition of works of art, as well as screenings of game and cartoon films.

The Festival of Russian Culture is held here for the ninth consecutive time. During this time, events under its auspices were visited by more than 11 million of the Japanese.
