Society and culture: International Congress of the Tolstoy family in Yasnaya Polyana

The Museum-Estate "Yasnaya Polyana" (the Tula region) on July 28 - August 2, 2014 hosts the International Congress of the Tolstoy family.

As part of the Congress in the Tolstoy family nest gathered 48 direct descendants of the writer - participants from Russia, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Sweden and the USA. This meeting is not only important in terms of maintaining links within a large family, but also a vivid example of the importance and value of tribal traditions in general. The congress participants will be offered a rich cultural program, in which the emphasis will be placed on a family theme. The current Congress is dedicated to the anniversaries of S. A. Tolstoy, as well as two daughters and two sons of the writer. Before the arrival of the Tolstoy family in Yasnaya Polyana was opened the exhibition "The Joy of Childhood" dedicated to children of Leo Tolstoy and Sofya Andreyevna, and during the congress participants will visit another exhibition, which tells of his mother Maria Nikolaevna Volkonskaya.
