Information technology and culture: The historical tape of Sergei Eisenstein “Ivan the Terrible” to be digitized in “Mosfilm”

"Mosfilm" plans in August 2014 to release a restored picture of Sergei Eisenstein "Ivan the Terrible". It will be released in digital high definition. The showing of the updated tape is to be prepared for its 70th anniversary.

The film consists of two series. The duration of each is about a hundred minutes; it is more than two thousand frames. They are treated in several stages – the digitization of the film, computer restoration and color correction. The sound will be restored after the process the entire film.

"Ivan the Terrible" is the last work of Sergei Eisenstein. The first part of the film was released in January 1945. The director received for it the Stalin Prize of the I degree. But the second part was not proved by the Soviet authorities, and in the end viewers saw it only in 1958.
