Society and culture: The new exposition of the literary department opened in the M. Y. Lermontov Museum-Reserve in Pyatigorsk

July 17, 2014 in the M. Y. Lermontov State Museum-Reserve (Pyatigorsk) opened a new exhibition of the literary department. The creation of a new exhibition in the Pyatigorsk museum – is one of the key projects that entered the outline plan for the preparation and celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Y. Lermontov, approved by the Government of Russia.

The previous exposition created in the early 1970s by the well-known Leningrad expositioner T. N. Voronikhina, lasted more than forty years and was in need of updating.

The main task that the museum specialists put in front of the St. Petersburg expositioners when creating a new exhibition – is to talk about the visit of Mikhail Y. Lermontov in the Caucasus with modern museum means. The exposition is located in the home of Verzilins, one of the oldest houses in Pyatigorsk, the thing where the poet visited summer 1841 and where he was challenged to a duel.

The museum exhibits appeared before the audience in modern windows and tablets equipped with protection systems and lighting. Now you can use multimedia tools: in the first hall of the exhibition will be organized views themed movies and presentations. Fundamentally it is changed the lighting solution. Artists and expositioners managed to create a modern museum space and organize it showing the most significant exhibits on the theme "Lermontov and the Caucasus". And, of course, it is kept in its present form a memorial living room, where there was a fatal quarrel of M. Y. Lermontov and N. S. Martynov.
