
Memory of Russia: Exhibits form the collection of the Vologda Museum-Reserve presented at two exhibitions dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the birth of St. Sergius of Radonezh
The exhibits from the collection of the Vologda State Museum-Reserve are presented at two major exhibitions, dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the birth of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
The exposition “From St. Sergius of Radonezh to St. Seraphim of Sarov. Monastery traditions in Russian art” opened in the Moscow Central Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art of Andrei Rublev. The exhibition combined exhibits from museum, archive, church and private collections and tells of the formation and flowering of the Russian monastic tradition in the era of St. Sergius of Radonezh and his followers. The first section is dedicated to the founder of the Monastery of the Holy Trinity and the development of the iconography. The second section combines images of “interlocutors”, monks and followers of St. Sergius founded many monasteries near Moscow in the so-called Northern Thbaid. The third section describes life, heritage and iconography of St. Sergius of Sarov, as well as Optina elders.
The exhibition features 17 works of the XVI-XIX centuries from the collection of the Vologda State Museum-Reserve.
The exhibition runs until October 9, 2014 in the St. Andronikov Monastery.
The exhibition "And the light is not faded…", opened in the museum complex of the Sergiev Posad Museum, is dedicated to the life and ministry of St. Sergius of Radonezh. It brings together works of the XV – early XXI century, addressed to St. Sergius of Radonezh, which helps to understand the scale of the individual in history and culture of Russia. The exhibition includes not only images of "Abbot of the Russian Land", but his disciples, tonsures, followers as well as works of art, one way or another connected with the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
The exhibition is based on exhibits from the collection of the Sergiev Posad Museum-reserve. It features about 400 exhibits, among which are 4 works from the collection of the Vologda State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve.
The exhibition will run until December 25, 2014.
