Information technology and libraries: The mobile library opened in Kirov

Mobile libraries now appeared in parks and streets of Kirov. This is a kind of electronic kiosks, on which walls are located spines of various Russian and foreign books.

Anyone with a mobile device with 3G or Wi-Fi can download a virtual book. It is enough to point the camera of smart phone or tablet on the individual QR-code of the book, located on the book’s spine, and download the file in the electronic form.

One of the Russian providers expressed the initiative of the project. This project is implemented in several Russian cities.

Now mobile libraries contain about 150 books, the list of books was composed with the help of librarians. In addition, experts helped to solve the problems with copyrights. In respect of all the works, which are in mobile libraries, the statute of limitations has ended.

Moreover, the list of works in each region is completed within the local context. For example, in the Kirov region is much local history, so the list contained a variety of materials on the history of Vyatka, which provided the Herzen Regional Library. According to the director of the institution Nadezhda Guryanova, such an initiative is very important.

Now in an agreement with regional department of culture there are five mobile libraries in parks and other public places of Kirov.
