Libraries abroad: A bust of A. S. Pushkin erected at the National Library of Uruguay

At the National Library of Uruguay in Montevideo was erected the bust of the Great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. People of Uruguay granted it from the charity fund “Dialogue of Cultures” and the Institute of Bering – Bellingshausen. The solemn opening ceremony of the monument in the oldest cultural object of the Uruguayan capital, founded in 1815, took place in the presence of participants of the institute conference.

According to President of the charity fund “Dialogue of Cultures”, the author of the poet’s bust for the National Library of Uruguay Igor Novoselov, “Pushkin not only for us but for the world’s community – is the symbol of Russia, the Russian language and culture”. According to him, the work and life of the Great poet is “close to Latinos because Pushkin created many works, dedicated to freedom, and the history of Russia and other countries of Latin America is associated to the struggle for independence”.
