11 July 2014

To the 200th anniversary of the Victory over Napoleon, the State Museum-Reserve “Pavlovsk” on June 11 hosts the exhibition “Alexander the Blessed – the liberator of Europe”.

The exhibition is prepared on the basis of materials of the Museum-Reserve in Rose Pavilion of the Pavlovsk Park, where 200 years ago Empress Maria Feodorovna met her son Emperor Alexander I- defeated Napoleon and liberator of Europe, getting the title the Blessed.

The exposition features engravings and watercolors of 1813-1815 from the collection of the museum in facsimile copies, primarily works bout the occupation of Paris, portraits of members of the Imperial family by Orest Kiprensky.

The exhibition also contains interiors of the Rose Pavilion. For example, in the central Rotunda, the architectural masterpiece of Andrei Nikiforovich Voronikhin, houses, like in the time of Maria Feodorovna, a unique chair – a historical relic, stored in the Rose Pavilion. The chair is made of birch wood and is upholstered with embroidery, made by silk in canvas. On the back in a wreath of white roses and bay leaves – is an initial of Alexander I, over which a crown is sewn with golden silk. On the seat – is a double-headed eagle under a crown on his breast - plate with the letter "A". On the sides of the seat are the inscription "Enter of Alexander I in Paris on March 31, 1814".

The organizers of the exhibition tried to show that the Rose Pavilion is “the monument of glory over Napoleon – Alexander I - and at the same time celebrations of his mother, honored the peacemaker of Europe in the premises of this building”.
