World history: The exhibition “Unknown history: Posters of the First World War” in the Republic of Khakassia

30 August 2014

The exhibition "Unknown History: Posters of the First World" opened in the Khakassia National Museum of L. R. Kyzlasov (Abakan) on August 28, 2014.

In 1914, the Russian Empire entered the war in Europe and by its scales it surpassed all previous wars. Patriotic enthusiasm captured the first months of the entire population of the country, including the artistic intelligentsia. Many artists have gone into the army. Some of them worked at the front as correspondents of major periodicals. Presented at the exhibition posters give an idea about the events of the First World War, talk about the needs of the Russian army, calling for participation in charity events, advertise war bonds and raise the morale of the soldiers.

The exhibition is based on scanned copies of Russian propaganda posters of 1914-1916 from the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia. Here are works from the private collection of S. A. Podstanitsky, works by P. A. Alyakrinskiy and A. I. Lebedev, drawings by B. M. Kustodiev, as well as the work of the future founders of Soviet cartoons and political posters – V. N. Deni (Denisov) and D. S. Moor (Orlov), devoted not only to the military events, but also the internal problems of the country.

The exhibition "Unknown History: Posters of the First World War" will be interesting to pupils, students and anyone interested in modern Russian history.
