History and culture: The exhibition “Images of Russia in the music of Russian composers” in Saratov
The Saratov Museum of Regional Studies hosts the exhibition "Images of Russia in the music of Russian composers". It is provided by the All-Russian Museum Association of Musical Culture of M. I. Glinka (Moscow) and is carried out in the framework of the Year of Culture of the Russian Federation. The exhibition reflects the bright pages in the history of Russian music and the fine art of the late XIX - early XX century. It features unique musical manuscripts of Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Borodin and Grechaninov, motet books of the XVIII - XIX centuries, rare prints and photographs, paintings by Russian artists from the funds of the Association.
The exhibition features musical autographs and editions of the works of Russian composers at historical themes and subjects - the opera "Life for the Tsar" by M. I. Glinka, "Prince Igor" by A. P. Borodin, "Boris Godunov" and "Khovanshchina" by M. P. Mussorgsky, Festival Overture "1812" and the cantata "Moscow" by P. I. Tchaikovsky. True masterpieces are the copyright of the manuscript: "Cherubim" by Tchaikovsky and "The Vigil" by Rachmaninoff.
The lithographs and photographs of the XIX century depict directors and teachers of Court Chapel in St. Petersburg, the Synod Choir and synod school choirs in Moscow, famous composers A. F. Lvov, D. S. Bortnyansky, N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, M. I. Glinka, A. P. Borodin, P. I. Tchaikovsky, S. V. Rachmaninoff, well-known domestic singers F. I. Shalyapin and N. A. Obukhov.
The printed music in Russia in the late XIX - early XX century is presented with a richly illustrated publication by well-known Russian firms P. I. Jurgenson, M. P. Belyayev, V. V. Bessel. Piano scores of operas by Russian artists are decorated in traditional style.
A number of exhibits are dedicated to the pages of musical life of Saratov. The exhibition presents the songs of natives of Saratov V. N. Paskhalov and E. I. Klimovsky, photography director of the Court Chapel N. I. Bakhmetev, director of the Saratov Conservatory G. E. Conus, and professor at the Conservatory A. I. Listopadov, composer A. T. Grechaninov, conducted in 1912 by conservatory orchestra and a great singer L. V. Sobinov repeatedly performing in Saratov. Now the Saratov Conservatory bears his name.
The exhibition feature works by famous Russian artists from the director, composer, teacher and passionate collector Nikolai Semenovich Golovanov. These are paintings on historical themes and landscapes of V. D. Polenov, I. I. Levitan, K. A. Korovin and other Russian artists.
