History and culture: The exhibition “Minsk School of Photography. 1960-2000” in Saint-Petersburg

The State Museum and Exhibition Centre ROSPHOTO from 22 August 2014 with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg presents the exhibition “Minsk School of Photography. 1960s - 2000s”.

The exhibition “Minsk School of Photography” is a key event in the history of the Belarusian art of photography to the second half of the XX century. The exhibition includes more than 150 works from the collection of the State Museum and Exhibition Center ROSPHOTO.

The works of Belarusian photographers arrived in the museum at different times and from different sources. The acquisition of the first work dates from 2002 - the year of foundation of ROSPHOTO and the start of the building of photograph collection. As a result of further acquisitions was established a department of the museum collection devoted to photos of Belarus. The largest acquisition in the collection took place in 2013, when the collection was enriched with more than 700 works, representing 14 art photographers from Minsk. Thus collections of ROSPHOTO entered photo masterpieces of key for Belarusian photography authors, which allowed talking about the current collection of Belarusian photography of the mid XX century - early XXI century.
