Society and Reading: An open-air library and lecture theatre launched “VDNH” National Economy Achievements Show in Moscow

On the territory of the Exhibition of the Achievements of National Economy in Moscow began to work an open-air library, camped in form of an ample summer reading room and six book crossing cubicles. Now anyone can browse through the different genres of literature, listen to the lectures, take part in workshops and art projects, and meet with writers, scientists and musicians.

Open-air library at “VDNKh” operates under the auspices of the Moscow City Library Center and Centralized Library System of the Northeast District, with the support of the "New Literary Review" publishing house (NLO), Bookmate library of electronic books and Moscow Youth Media Center (MMMTs).

There are more than 5,000 books in the library’s funds. The visitors of reading rooms also have free WI-FI and free access to Bookmate e-books library.

In the ample summer reading room “VDNKh” will take place popular science lectures, meetings with writers, scientists, musicians, master classes, public readings and art projects.

Summer reading room and Book crossing clubs perfectly fit library infrastructure of “VDNKh”. Traditional library works in the main exhibition of the country from 1937 to the present day. 40,000 books on various fields of science await theirs reader in the structure #335. Among them are the unique, rare editions from XIX century. There are more than 300,000 photographs and negatives from the history of USSR’s VSKhV-VDNKh at library collection.
