Internet and history: The website “People’s Archive of the First World War” launched in the Web

To the First World War Centenary, the Russian Military-Historical Society has opened the Internet service “The Great War. People’s Archive of the First World War”. Anyone can create at the website his personal page with documents from family archive, memoires with the events of the First World War. 

The work of the project in the test mode has already proved its high demand and popularity among Internet users, who are not indifferent to the history of their country. 

For the participants of the project this website is the opportunity to tell about fates of their relatives. There are documents, diaries, postcards, greeting cards, photos of weapons, warships, frontal shots, portraits and signatures - not just relatives. The Internet-project "The Great War. People's Archive of the First World War"- is a kind of chronicle, storage of any, even indirect evidence of the First World War, about which we still know so little.

The website gathers people for whom the theme of the First World War - in person suffering. For a month of work in test mode the "People's archive" collected hundreds of unique photographs, rare documents, diaries, biographical information about real participants of the hostilities.

The motto of the project is "to keep the history together!" People's Archive of the First World War, which was suppressed for centuries, waiting for the new chroniclers. At the All-Russian multimedia exhibition "Look into the eyes of the war", which opens on August 28, 2014 at the Maly Manezh in Moscow will run a self-service terminal, in which the documents from the family archive can be put at the website "The Great War. People's Archive of the First World War" by anyone.
