
World History: "At the turning-point... Russia in the Great War of 1914-1918" exhibition In Moscow
On August 2, 2014, at the Central Exhibition Hall "Manege" (Moscow) opens a large-scale urban exhibition "At the turning-point... Russia in the Great War of 1914-1918" dedicated to the 100th anniversary since the outbreak of the First World War. The exhibition will run until the end of August.
The war became an important historical turning point for Russia, a paradigm shift for its mission and an entire interchange, the end of the Empire and the beginning of a new stage of history.
At the heart of the exhibition is a unique collection of "Talan" Movie Company, consisting of the military propaganda posters. Studying them today we can trace back how were displacing the emphases, transforming the images, changing goals and priorities. 450 posters from 1914-1918 will articulate the war history as a series of relevant artistic images. An exceptionally valuable selection of "The Сhronicles of the Great War" famous magazine will be presents as well.
The exhibition includes the most important archival documents from the Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History, State Archive of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Military Historical Archive and the State Documentary Films and Photography Archive: the letters, diaries, maps, photographs, newsreels. Moscow literary and historical museums, museums of the Ministry of Defense of Russia (Central Museum of the Armed Forces, Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps) and other museums are display the samples of weapons, military uniforms and clothing allowance, household items of civil rear. The centerpiece of the exhibition belongs to aircrafts of World War I period and to the model of locomotives. Overall, the entries from their collections will be submitted by more than 25 Russian museums.
In addition, the exhibition will include the "Heroes of the Great War" project, set as a separate unit of the exhibition. It will bring the distant war into our time, showing the blurred images of the unknown heroes - the real, affected by the fate of war people, who were witnessing these events. For submission the documents to this project is enough to e-mail us at geroi_velikoy@mail.ru with a scanned copy of photo, name the relative in the photo, and add a few words about his outcome.
The series of lectures on the World War I will work at the exhibition, including video screenings of the "Great War. The History and the Destinies", implemented with the participation of the Moscow literary museums and the Russian State University for the Humanities, with technical support of the project provided by the Dream Industries.
The exhibition "At the turning-point... Russia in the Great War of 1914-1918" will become a significant event not only in a series of commemorative events, but also a large-scale project in the framework of the Year of Culture in Russia.
