Memory of Russia: The Military-Historical reconstruction on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd

On Mamayev Kurgan (Volgograd) with the support of the Volgograd regional branch of the Russian Military Historical Society on September 28, 2014 is held the reconstruction of the battle for the Main height of Russia. The event will take place as part of the Federal government program "Patriotic Education of Citizens of the Russian Federation for 2011-2015".

In autumn 1942 Mamayev Kurgan became a place of bloody battles between the soldiers of the Red Army and the Wehrmacht. Height 102, as designated on the Mamaev Kurgan on military maps, several times passed from hand to hand. Finally, September 28, 1942 parts of the 284th Infantry Division was able to gain a foothold on the eastern slope of the mound, which they defended until January 26, 1943 - the date when in the vicinity of Mamaev Kurgan the 21th Army joined with the troops advancing from the east of the 62nd Army.

September 28 members of military history clubs from Volgograd and other cities of Russia reconstruct events of September during the fighting for the Mamayev Kurgan.

According to the organizers, the reconstruction will involve about 100 people. Viewers can see the real tanks T-34-85 and T-60, which will be provided by the Museum-Reserve "Battle of Stalingrad", truck ZIS-5V, armored personnel carriers, Demag-250, as well as mortars, guns and small arms. It will be open an exhibition "Destroyed the dugout", the art exhibition of the war years and photo documentary exhibition "Fighting for the Mamaev Kurgan". Guests of honor will be the veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
