Information Technology and Libraries: The Collection of Regional Studies of National Library of Adygea will be digitized

A repository of the National Library of the Republic of Adygea contains today about 500 thousand units, but special attention is driven to the Collection of Local Lore and National Literature, consisting of about 30 thousand units. Exactly this literature is a valuable source to enhance knowledge of the history and culture of the Adygea people. And one of the main goals of the staff employees of the National Library of Adygea is to save these sources for future generations and to provide free access to the documentary heritage of the Adyghe people. To implement this the collection of national study of local lore must be converted into digital format.

To the National Library of the Republic of Adygea was purchased a planetary scanner for digitizing books. This equipment does various scanning tasks, divided on the self-service terminals, mass digitization stations and high quality scanning systems.

Now almost all the libraries involved in the digitization of documents, after which they become part of the National Digital Library of the country. Thus, each subject with its content, which is the uniqueness and value of the each region, is included in a nationwide electronic database. Therefore, the National Library of the Republic of Adygea aspires to become the National Electronic Library of the Republic.
