
Exhibition: "The Roerich Pact. The Hystory and the Contemporaneity" exhibition in St. Petersburg
"The Roerich Pact. The History and the Contemporaneity" exhibition opens on September 25, 2014, in the new building of Rassian National Library (St. Petersburg).
The exhibition is focused at the history of the Roerich Pact - the "Treaty on the Protection of Art and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments" and the relevance of his ideas in the contemporary world.
In the international legal field Roerich Pact had become the first document called for an absolute protection of historical monuments, museums, scientific, artistic, educational and cultural institutions and their employees in a peacetime and a wartime.
The exhibition features more than 180 exhibits from the fund the International Roerich Center’s Foundation. Among these are the books and reproductions of paintings by Nicholas Roerich. The exposition includes the editions from the different years belonging to the collections of Russian National Library and associated with the name of the scientist and his family.
The exhibition offers the very Roerich Pact’s text and tells about the history of the origin of this document, the relevance of his ideas, the International Roerich Center’s accomplishments, and much more.
Dedicated to the life and work of the Roerich family and the history of the Roerich Pact, as well as the work of the International Roerich Center documentaries’ screenings will take place during the exhibition.
The exhibition’s objective is to spread peacemaking ideas of Nicholas Roerich and to drive the attention of the world to the origins of the international movement for the protection of cultural heritage and the need to consolidate the efforts for the preservation and saving of peace and culture.
The exhibition will continue until October 17.
