World History: The "World War I: Epoch, People, Fates" exhibition in Barnaul

The "World War I: Epoch, People, Fates" book-illustrative exhibition opening was held on September 18, 2014, in Altai Regional Library named after V. Y. Shishkov (Barnaul) within dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First World War book-reader's campaign.

The exhibition features more than 500 books, which describes the political situation in the world in the early twentieth century, about the military campaigns and Russia’s involvement in these. It also presents the scientific and popular publications, encyclopedias, reference books, monographs and literary works of Russian and foreign authors.

One of the remarkable chapters is focused on the Altai Territory where 400 thousand persons was mobilized for the front. This section is built by joint efforts of the regional contributors, who have responded to "I Remember and I'm Proud of!" campaign. They brought together the wartime objects and the documents that belong to their family archives (letters, photographs, diaries). Visitors will also get a chance to see exhibits of the "The Native Land History" Museum of Barnaul Gymnasium #69. Among them the Austrian steel helmet model of 1917, French Croix de Guerre of 1917, the 4th edition of H. Barbusse novel titled "Fire" (1919), the French sapper scissors and other exhibits.

The winners awards ceremony of organized by the library "World War I: Epoch, People, Fates" regional creative online competition took place as a part of the exhibition opening. A jury consisting of historians, local lore researchers, and an expert from the regional library evaluated the works. All works submitted to competition can be found on the library website.
