World history: International Scientific Conference “The First World War – the prologue of the XX century” in Moscow

8-10 September 2014 the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow holds the International scientific conference "The First World War - the prologue of the XX century".

The conference looks at the history of global conflict in complex, the attention of its members will be drawn to the discussion of controversial issues of the First World War, not only in the military-political and diplomatic spheres, but also in social, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields. A special place in the forum will take questions of Russia's participation in an armed confrontation, as well as preservation of the historical memory of the war, which became the prologue of the XX century.

Participants of 5 plenary and 15 breakout sessions - the leading experts of the metropolitan and regional research centers in Russia, Great Britain, Canada, Italy, Poland, Austria, France, Belgium, Bulgaria, Serbia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan - will discuss more than120 reports on the most pressing problems of studying the dramatic events of 1914-1918.

The conference will feature presentations from two fundamental research leading Russian historians: Encyclopedic Dictionary "The First World War" and the monograph "The First World War and the fate of European civilization".
