History and culture: The exhibition “Restoration at the Hermitage. A look through the prism of time” opens in Saint-Petersburg
October 28, 2014 at the State Hermitage Museum (Saint-Petersburg), in the Armorial and Picket halls of the Winter Palace, opens the exhibition “Restoration at the Hermitage. A look through the prism of time”.
The exposition - about 260 monuments restored in the department of scientific restoration and preservation of the museum. Among them - "Flight into Egypt", an early masterpiece by Titian; "Madonna delle Grazie" by Lorenzo Lotto; "Annunciation" by Giovanni Battista Cima da Conegliano; Icon of an unknown artist of the Sienese school of early XV century "Madonna and Child enthroned and angels. Scenes from the Life of the Madonna and Christ" (in stamps); Roman statue of Athena of the II century and many others.
The exhibition features diverse in character, materials and time of creating works of art from the Hermitage collection, stored or regenerated by art restorers. This thematic restoration exhibition took place in the museum 30 years ago - "Restoration of Monuments in the Hermitage" (1984).
