Memorable dates of Russia: “Lermontov days in Saint-Petersburg” to the 200th anniversary of the birth of M. Y. Lermontov

In October and November 2014 in Saint-Petersburg takes place “Lermontov-Fest” – an autumn festival, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of M. Y. Lermontov. Multi-day Lermontov marathon combines a variety of events, platforms, participants.

The program of the festival includes tours, readings, lectures, film screenings, costume presentations, performances, master-classes in libraries, museums, theatre and exhibition venues.

On the birthday of M. Y. Lermontov, October 15, at 14.00 near the monument to the poet on Lermontov prospect 53 will take place a solemn ceremony and a memorial concert with the participation of leading artists of Petersburg theaters, writers, artists, choirs.

To the anniversary of the poet in Petersburg started a project “Lermontov around the corner”, organized by the Museum of Anna Akhmatova with the support of the Committee for Culture of Saint-Petersburg. The project can be called a regional quest: metropolitan and city streets will contain frivolous images of naive city. Bright humorous posters act as signposts and invite to go on a tour through Lermontov places in Saint-Petersburg. Posters are placed in metropolitan stations and city streets. The action will run until October 31.

October 14 in the Museum of Anna Akhmatova in Fountain House is opened an exhibition of sketches for the project “Lermontov around the corner”. The exhibition gives opportunity to see how images were created, to look into the studio of masters. The exposition features a variety of sketches and drawings, as well as 16 banners – copies of posters, created for the project. 

As part of the festival “Lermontov-Fest: are held exhibitions, dedicated to the life and work of M. Y. Lermontov:

- “Hero of Our Time” in Stable Building of the Elagin Island palace and park complex (until December 21);

- “In his mind, I created another world and the existence of other images” in the St. Petersburg State Theatre Library - archival documents from the library (until December 5);

- "The poet, who had heard the world" at the Museum of Printing – are exhibited books of the poet, published in St. Petersburg-Leningrad, playbills, postcards, stamps, coins, photographs from the collections of the Museum of History of St. Petersburg (October 16 -  November 30);

- "When a star talks with a star" in the M. Y. Lermontov Central Library - the works of St. Petersburg sculptor Ilya Litvinov: sculpture, sketches, small plastic (October 16 - November 16).
