Memorable dates of Russia: The exhibition “I created another world of image in my mind” to the 200th anniversary of M. Y. Lermontov in Saint-Petersburg

October 9, 2014 at the St. Petersburg State Theatre Library opened the exhibition "I created another world of image in my mind" dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Y. Lermontov.

M. Y. Lermontov - a brilliant artist who created masterpieces of poetry, prose and drama. The Theater library contains unique materials - evidence of life stage of plays by Lermontov.

The exhibition presents the censorship instances of dramatic works of the poet as a resolution of the presentation, as well as the ban, the manuscript of the first dramatizations of Lermontov's works with the director's notes, drawings staging, copies of plays belonging to the main performers of the performances on their way to the stage of the Imperial Theatres.

Archival documents will help learning more about the peculiarities of the directors, designers of performances.

Visuals exhibitions are complemented with the costumes by A. Golovin, K. Korovin and other artists to Lermontov's performances, rare photos.

A special place in the exposition belongs to:

- Backstage copy of the manuscript "Masquerade: scenes borrowed from Lermontov's comedy" in 1852 with an indication of the roles of performers, scenery, sham things for artists;

- The third volume of the complete works of Mikhail Y. Lermontov, published in St. Petersburg in 1903 (owned by Y. Yuriev, the actor playing Arbenina in drama "Masquerade", set by V. Meyerhold in the Alexandrinsky Theatre in 1917). The drama contains many marks owned by the artist hand;

- Unpublished manuscript by theatrologist G. Steblitsky "Fixation" Masquerade"", which contains speech on the resumption of Meyerhold's staging of the drama in the Alexandrinsky Theatre in 1933.
