International conferences: The Scientific-Practical Conference “The First World War in the mirror of cinema” in Moscow

The Research Institute of Film Arts (NIIK, Moscow) on 8-9 October 2014 is held the International scientific-practical conference "The First World War in the mirror of cinema".

The aim of the conference is to analyze the experience of cinema and other screen media in understanding the events of the First World War and the formation of national cultural memory in Russia and world cultural memory as a whole.

The material of war newsreel, game, animation and documentary films made in the XX-XXI centuries, Is considers the evolution of the reflection of the events and characters of the First World War in the Russian and foreign cinema, to reveal their historical and aesthetic character, method of construction and transformation of the image of the event.

An important objective of the conference is also an introduction to the scientific and general Cultural Revolution obscure or partially lost films of past years, created in Russia and abroad, as well as new works by contemporary filmmakers, dedicated to the First World War.

As part of the conference are supposed plenary sessions, sections, scientific discussions, film screenings.

Participants and guests can get acquainted with the photo exhibition "The Great War and the "Russian world". Photographic evidence", which presents little-known photographs of the First World War of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive.
