International conferences: The value of Leo Tolstoy for European culture discussed in Italy

The International conference “Tolstoy and his time” took place on November 20-22, 2014 in Italian cities of Bergamo and Milan. The forum, which was attended by scientists and students from Russia and Italy, was organized by the foundation “Russia Cristiana” (Seriate, Italy) and the cultural center “Pokrov Gates” (Msocow).

November 20 in the theatre “Delle grazie” in Bergamo was held the round table dedicated to the art of Tolstoy, at which his speech delivered professor of the Milan Catholic University Adriano dell’Asta and researcher from Moscow Natalia Likvintseva (the House of Russian Abroad).

The official opening of the conference took place on November 21 in the Milan Catholic University.

Among the performances – the internal integrity of the writer, Tolstoy as religious type, the influence of Leo Tolstoy on works of Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the attitude to Tolstoy creativity of the Russian philosopher Vladimir Solovyov and many others.

Brief reports about Tolstoy and Christianity were also presented by young Italians – students of high school. Their materials became the subject of live discussion, which was attended by Russian and Italian researchers.

The conference will run on December 12-15 in Moscow, in the cultural center “Pokrov Gates”.
