
Society and culture: The exhibition, timed to anniversaries of Z. E. Serebryakova and N. Y. Lancere “We lived by art”, in Peterhof
2014 marks anniversaries of two representatives of art dynasty of Benois-Lancere: 130 years is celebrated since the birth of a participant of the association “World of Art” by Zinaida Yevgenievna Serebryakova and 135 of the birth of her brother, architect Nicholas Yevgenievich Lancere. The “Peterhof” State Museum-Reserve timed several events to the significant dates.
November 13 in the space of the Museum of the Benois family was opened the exhibition project "We lived by art". The exhibition introduces the creative quest of Zinaida Serebryakova and Nicholas Lancere. Originality of thought and spiritual wealth of the Silver Age masters are presented as an example of paintings, pencil sketches and watercolors of the funds the “Peterhof” State Museum-Reserve.
Works of art complement unique archival documents, photographs and evidence of the epistolary genre. Zinaida Serebryakova and Nicholas Lancere come from the family of a sculptor Eugene Lancere and Ekaterina Benois – a daughter of the architect Nicholas Leontievich Benois, who has done a lot for the formation of the architectural look of Peterhof. Family traditions have predetermined their further way in art: each master has managed to occupy a worth place in the profession. The exhibition in the “Peterhof” State Museum-Reserve makes moving away from stereotypes in the assessment of art of Serebryakova and Lancere.
The “Peterhof” State Museum-Reserve hosted the museum seminar. Specialists discussed a wide range of topics related to the life and art of representatives of the Benois-Lancere family. The discussion welcomes art and cultural workers, museum specialists, descendants of artists.
