
Information technology and libraries: Each library book to have electronic copy
At the Suzdal 18th International Conference "Information Technologies, Computer Systems and Publications for Libraries» (LIBCOM 2014) State Secretary - Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Grigory Ivliev noted: "The new law "On Culture" will be provided for the introduction of libraries mandatory electronic copy of the book - "digital form, with a particular standard". It is a necessity, dictated by the new conditions of the digital space and the information society, in which the role of libraries is getting complicated and increased".
"Libraries should not only survive and adapt to a new society, but also take the position of niche of catalysts in the information society and democratic institutions, public access to information", - said Director General of Russian National Public Library Yakov Schreiberg.
Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of Russia at the conference, which takes place on November 11-14 in Suzdal of the Vladimir region, is held a discussion of the new "Law on Culture", as well as the new concept of the National Digital Library. Particular attention is the final version of the Model standard for public libraries.
At the conference is discussed the whole range of problems of libraries, universities, publishers, bookstores, etc. in information services; the use of modern computer technology to improve information services to the public and conducting practical trainings.
A significant place is given to the coverage of national programs in the field of information policy, information security research and education.
As part of the conference it is held the exhibition "Information Technologies, Computer Systems and Publications for Libraries".
