Society and culture: The exhibition “Gregory Ugryumov. 1964-1823” in Saint-Petersburg

The Mikhailovsky Castle (the State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg), hosts an exhibition "Gregory Ugryumov. 1764-1823".

The exhibition marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest masters of Russian painting. Gregory Ugryumov, the author of the painting "The trial of strength of Jan Usmar", which became a significant event in the history of the national art of the late XVIII - XIX centuries, was not only one of the greatest artists of the time, but the head of the class of historical painting - the most important in the academic system. More than thirty years Ugriumov was taught in the Imperial Academy of Arts. Among the students of the master are such significant craftsmen of Russian paintings of the XIX century, as A. I. Ivanov, A. E. Egorov, V. K. Shebuev.

Gregory Ugriumov created paintings on historical, biblical and mythological subjects, and also appealed to the portrait genre. Many of his works on the law entered the golden fund of Russian painting. The exposition of paintings and drawings from the collection of the State Russian Museum and other museum collections allow recreating the complete and objective picture of the work of a remarkable artist and about the era in which he lived and worked.
