Memory of Russia: A monument to the People's Militia of 1612 opened near Moscow

A monument to the People's Militia that defended the homeland in 1612 was opened on November 3, 2014, at "Russ" National Riding Park in the Moscow Region. The author of the monument is Honored Culture Russian artist, sculptor-muralist Maria Tikhonova.

Monument to the People's Militia reflects the idea of 1612 year’s events. There are forged brands with images of Prince Pozharsky and Kuzma Minin with armed militias and the depicting historical events engraved bas-reliefs on three sides of the pedestal. The fourth side of the pedestal is adorn with a symbol of Russian statehood - the embossed shining "Two-Headed Eagle" emblem and the words "To the People's Militia, defended Faith and Fatherland in 1612."

Monument in the Leninsky District is the third monument dedicated to national militia - the first two, located in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod, portray only chiefs militias, Pozharsky and Minin, - and the first one with an emphasizes on the meaning of ordinary Russians in the victory over Polish invaders.

This is the second work of Mary Tikhonova in the "Russ" park. The first was the Obelisk to the First World War, opened on August 1, 2014. There is also an idea to open another three monuments: to the War of 1812, to the soldiers-internationalists and local wars’ participants and the one dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
