Museums of Russia: The Military-Historical Museum to be restored in Saint-Petersburg

The government of Russia has approved a reorganization of the S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy, located on the Neva River of the Pirogov embankment in St. Petersburg. This order on December 19, 2014 was signed by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.

The Decree says: "From the composition of the S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy of Military Defense of Russia is allocated the Military Medical Museum in order to recreate it as a federal state budgetary institution of culture and art.

The museum was created on November 12, 1942 in difficult conditions of military siege of Leningrad and incorporates the collection of Artisan house, surgical, Pirogov, Military Medical Museum and the Military Medical Service of the Red Army, as well as personal funds are the first domestic Nobel laureates I. I. Mechnikov and P. P. Pavlov, prominent figures of national and world medicine and science V. M. Bekhterev, S. P. Botkin, N. N. Burdenko, N. I. Pirogov, I. M. Sechenov and many others.

The museum is part of the Union of Museums of Russia, the Russian Committee of the International Council of Museums, the European Association of Museums History of Medical Sciences, the International Committee for Museums and Collections of weapons and military history, and other scientific and public organizations.

The museum conducts educational and research activities in the field of the history of military medicine.
