The Presidential Library: New acquisitions
As part of the upcoming collection “Crimea in Postcards” the Presidential Library collection has been enriched with postcards from the Children’s Museum of a Postcard, which depict the effects of the Crimean earthquake of 1927.
In 1927 Crimea experienced a whole series of earthquakes: the first took place on June 26 and did not cause serious damages and casualties. The second - one of the most powerful earthquakes in the history of Crimea - happened on the night of 11 to 12 September 1927 and exceeded the strength and duration of all earthquakes that have occurred on the peninsula since the beginning of the XIX century. This earthquake affected almost the entire Crimea, it was felt outside the peninsula. The Red Cross Society of the Russian Federation issued a series of postcards, the entire collection from the sale of which was aimed at the restoration of the Crimea. Most mass publication was the release of the Commission of the Crimean CEC, consisting of more than thirty cards. At the same time, a group of crooks in the private printing office of F. Vershetsky in Moscow in large quantities were ordered postcards of the Crimean earthquakes that have been actively disseminated under the guise of raising funds "to help the Crimea". The criminal activity of adventures has been discontinued by the OGPU. This adventure is explained with errors in the explanatory inscriptions on the back of postcards.
The Presidential Library website features 17 postcards with the image of destroyed buildings and disaster-affected people as well as seismographic equipment.
