17 December 2014

In the exhibition hall of the Belgorod State Art Museum as part of the project "Heritage of Museums of Russia – to Belgorod residents!" opened a unique exhibition "Catherine II. The Way to the Throne. At the origins of the Russian Enlightenment" from the collection of one of the largest museums in Russia - the State Historical Museum (Moscow).

The exhibition features 156 exhibits: painting, sculpture, decorative-applied arts. There are rare portraits of the main characters, political allies and rivals, architectural drawings, weapons (hunting daggers, shotgun, dirks), articles of daily use, rare cartographic and numismatic monuments, investigation files, exhibits from the book department of the State Historical Museum, documentary written sources, a collection of ancient coins and others.

The exhibition is dedicated to the initial period of the life of Catherine II in Russia: from arrival in country before her accession to the throne. These years, which have shaped the fate of Catherine, had not yet been presented by museum exhibits which have never been exhibited or rarely used exhibits that will add new features to its "museum" image.

The exhibition has already exhibited in Ivanovo, Kirov, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir. The exhibition is designed for a wide range of visitors and will last until April 5, 2015.
