Memory of Russia: The monument to gunsmiths and soldiers of the First World War opened in Tula
The monument to Tula masters-gunsmiths and soldiers of the First World War solemnly opened on the square of the Moscow railway station in Tula.
The monument is implemented on the initiative and at the expense of the Russian Military-Historical Society as part of the centenary of the First World War. It presents bronze sculpture of the worker-gunsmith and a soldier on a granite pedestal with the image of coat-of-arms of the Tula region.
The project of the monument is developed by the People’s Artists of Russia Salavat Shcherbakov on the basis ideas, proposed by Tula search engines. "I was very pleased and honorable to work on this memorial, which will symbolize the heroic work of Tula gunsmiths and our forefathers - participants of once forgotten war", - said Shcherbakov.
The opening of the monument is timed to the Day of Unknown Soldier first celebrated in Russia.
To the 70th anniversary of the Victory of the Moscow railway station will appear another monument, dedicated to Tula citizens – participants of the Second World War and heroic defenders of Tula. The memorial complex will contain a recreated armored train “Tulyak” and several observation cars, which will house museum expositions.
