Russian museums: New multifunctional platform of the Museum of Theater and Music Art opens in Saint-Petersburg

The new multifunctional platform Chaliapine ArtFlat is opening in the Museum of Theatre and Music Art (Saint-Petersburg) for the accumulation and implementation of new ideas and presentations of modern art in its various manifestations.

Opening a new space on the first floor of the House-Museum of F. I. Chaliapin of 120 square meters, the Museum of Theatre and Music Art hopes to give the opportunity for creative initiatives of relevant requirements of the modern society. Modern design, lighting and sound equipment, multimedia projector and screen, - a platform is fully operational.

The site chosen for the new contemporary art space is not by accident: at his time Feodor Chaliapin decided to settle on the Petrograd side due to the fact that the artistic intelligentsia favored this area of Petersburg. One hundred years ago on "Petrogradka" was founded a military cinematic department of the Skobelev Committee, from which was born the famous "Lenfilm". Today in Chaliapine ArtFlat the Museum of Theatre and Music Art opens the exhibition for the anniversary of the studio. The exhibition project "Space artist. Theater. Cinema" will present the works of the masters who created sketches for the legendary dramatic performances and films from the beginning of the XX century to the present day. Costumes from films and performances, props found in the shops "Lenfilm", posters - all this will help to feel the atmosphere of the creation of a special world, so near and at the same time incredibly distant.

Among the exhibits are unique sketches of S.  Eisenstein for the film "Ivan the Terrible", the early avant-garde works by Kozintsev to the first performance of FEA (Factory eccentric actor) "Marriage", imbued with patriotism outline by N. Suvorov for movies "Volley of Aurora" and "Peter I" and others.
