History and Culture: "Ilya Glazunov. Kulikovo Field" Exhibition in Tula

"Ilya Glazunov. Kulikovo Field" exhibition opened at P. N. Krylov Museum in Tula.

The exhibition displays work of the full-fledged member of the Russian Academy of Arts, People's Artist of the USSR Ilya Glazunov from the collection of the Tula Regional Art Museum. Works, joint in a sole cycle, tell the story of the feat of arms of the Russian people in the Battle of Kulikovo, a victory in which was the first step towards the unyoke of Russian lands from the Tatar. The artist has been working on these paintings for many years.

Visitors will see works depicting St. Sergius of Radonezh, Dmitry Donskoy and Princess Evdokia, a panorama of Kulikovo Field, the various plotline compositions, reflecting the atmosphere of a preparation and a progress of the great battle.

The core of the cycle of paintings is shaped of various chronicles of the life of St. Sergius of Radonezh and Dmitry Donskoy, the monument of ancient Russian literature titled "Zadonshchina" - a work in which "the truth of life is multiplied by the legend." According to the author, in his work, he "wanted to communicate a life authenticity, the facts of what was happening, so our contemporary could once again get it touch with the great past of the native land, with new strength would have felt the continuous link between the times, between generations, and his own involvement into bygone events."
