Anniversaries of Russia: "A. Griboyedov: The Author of the Only Book" book exhibition to the 220th anniversary of the writer in St. Petersburg

"A. Griboyedov: the Author of the Only Book" book exhibition opens on January 28, 2015, in the Korf Hall of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg).

Exhibition at the National Library of Russia is dedicated to the poet, playwright, a brilliant diplomat, State Councilor, the famous Russian writer Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov and his main work - "Woe from Wit". This year marks 220 years since the birth of the author, and his legendary comedy turns 190 years.

The exhibition presents printed in 1833 first edition of the comedy as well as one of its best artistic edition of 1913.

Among the exhibits are the copies of manuscripts presented to Russian Emperor by the Shah of Persia as a token of compensation for the death of the Russian ambassador Alexander Griboyedov. These manuscripts are unique, and a famous "Shah-nameh" poem by Ferdowsi is among them.

Visitors will be able to see Yuri Tynianov’s reader's request to Public Library, made during his work on the book "Death of Wazir-Mukhtar."

Books and articles written by the leading researchers in literature V. G. Belinsky, A. M. Skabichevsky, N. K. Piksanova teels about the extraordinary personality of the writer and his journey.

A special place is taken by the materials devoted to the life of old Moscow and the behaviors of society at that time. A number of items will allow to look closer at the characters and to learn about their possible prototypes.

One section is dedicated to the fate of "Woe from Wit" comedy on stage.

The Illustrations to the comedy made by the famous artists Dmitry Kardovsky and Svyatozar Ostrov complement the exhibition.

The exhibition will continue until the 20th of February.
