Society and culture: The exhibition of Bulgarian theatre posters opened in Moscow

January 21, 2015 in the A. A. Bakhrushin Theatre Museum (Moscow) opened the exhibition of Bulgarian theatre poster. The author of thirty four presented works – a famous cartoonist far beyond the borders of Bulgaria, the laureate of international contests, the main artist of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre (Sofia) Stefan Despodov (1950-2015).

The exposition is a joint project of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Moscow, the Bulgarian National Theatre and the A. A. Bakhrushin Theatre Museum. It is dedicated to two anniversaries, which the Bakhrushin collection celebrates in 2014/2015: the 120th anniversary of the museum foundation by Alexei Alexandrovich Bakhrushin and the 150th anniversary of his birth.

The Bulgarian exhibition included in the official program of festivities, having become the event in a series of anniversary events.

Stefan Despodov was born in 1950 in the town of Kyustendil (Bulgaria). In 1974 he graduated from the Art Academy in Sofia. For many years he worked in the genre of cartoons, illustrations and posters. Art director of three animated films.

His works were published at home and abroad: in Russia, Poland, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Italy, Turkey, Serbia and Cuba…

The exposition in the A. A. Bakhrushin Theatre Museum is the second personal exhibition of Stefan Despodov in Moscow. The first one took place in 2012 as part of the Interstate program “Days of Spiritual culture of Bulgaria in the Russian Federation”.

In 2015, visitors will see works of recent years: the poster to the most notable productions of the leading theater company in Bulgaria – the Ivan Vazov National Theatre (Sofia). His repertoire includes, in addition to world classics, a lot of performances and works by Russian writers: Chekhov, Gorky, Turgenev, Andreev, Brodsky.
