Libraries of Russia: The Samara Regional Scientific Library celebrated its 155th anniversary
January 13, 2015 the Samara Regional Universal Scientific Library celebrated the 155-year anniversary, as well as two more events: the 200th anniversary of the birth of the second Samara Governor, honorary citizen of Samara Konstantin Karlovich Grot and the Day of the Samara province.
The name of Konstantin Karlovich Grot, outstanding statesman, citizen, patriot of Russia with the efforts of Samara regional specialists and library workers returns from the historical shadows. A graduate of the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum, who made a brilliant career, curator and collector of cultural values, the initiator of cultural and educational projects, projects of anesthetization of urban environment of Samara, crystal honest person, the guardian of the public interest and one of the first patrons in the history of the Samara region. While serving his governorship (1853-1860) provincial town of Samara has grown into a true center of the province: the first theater building, new educational institutions, parks, sidewalks and the first quay. A special place among the creations of Konstantin Karlovic takes the Samara Public Library (now the Samara Regional Universal Scientific Library).
To the anniversary at the library were opened several expositions: historical and documentary exhibition "K. K. Grot and Samara Province", the exhibition "Main library province: to the 155th anniversary of the founding", the book-illustrative exhibition "Day of the Samara province" from the series "Samara calendar"; "From Cabinet for reading until Alexander Public Library"; "Our rarities"; the exhibition of Arts "And the noise and glitter and sayings of the ball…"; the virtual exhibition of books from the library of K. K. Grot; the exhibition of author’s dolls "Time wizards".
