
Libraries of Russia: Events, dedicated to the 201st anniversary of the opening of the Imperial Public Library, in Saint-Petersburg
January 14, 1814 in Saint-Petersburg was solemnly opened for readers the Imperial Public Library, now the National Library of Russia. By tradition, every year on January 14 the NLR celebrates this event with a series of events.
In the conference hall of the Main building of the NLR the Director General of the NLR Anton Likhomanov will deliver his welcoming speech. Then will be held a lecture "Visiting the Imperial Public Library by Russian emperors".
It will be also held:
- Demonstration of documentary 3D-film "Temples of Culture", created by the International Project. A series about the NLR made by cult Austrian director Michael Glawogger. A film company Neue Road Movies GmbH (Berlin).
- The solemn transfer of electronic archive of the newspaper "St. Petersburg Vedomosti" in the Electronic Library of NLR.
- In the Korff Hall - the opening of a book exhibition "The gift of the library". The exhibition will feature over 300 of the most valuable books received in the NLR in 2014. These are editions of the world-famous museums, gifts consulates, foreign libraries, different institutions, as well as the individual authors and publishers. Total for 2014 it was received as a gift 13056 editions.
The National Library of Russia takes pride place among national libraries of the world for its history, unique collections of manuscripts and printed documents in all languages of the world. Like other major libraries of the world, NLR aims to reveal, to develop, to preserve its unique resources and intellectual potential of the greatest benefit to society.
