History and culture: The results of the open contest for the best idea-concept and location of the Museum of Blockade and Defense of Leningrad

At the end of 2014 took place the summarizing of the open contest for young architects for the best idea, concept and location of the new building of the Museum of the Blockade and the Defense of Leningrad.

The competition is held in order to attract public attention to the problem of preserving the memory of the siege by Nazi troops in Leningrad, the courage and steadfastness of its inhabitants, about the heroism of the citizens and soldiers in the defense of the city and its liberation from the enemy blockade.

The works presented at the competition, will serve the formation of "Bank of Ideas" of the new building of the Museum of the Blockade and Defense of Leningrad.

The competition was attended by 137 people. 71 projects are presented for discussion. From 18 December 2014 the materials received for the competition, were exhibited for public viewing and discussion on the balustrade of the main building, the Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.

The composition of the jury is comprised of leading experts in the field of architecture and public figures. The jury is headed by Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Vladimir Kirillov and Marat Oganesyan.
