Internet and culture: The National Library of Russia presented a virtual exhibition “Petersburg list of Miroslav Gospel”

The history of discovery of Miroslav Gospel, the story of a single sheet of the manuscript in the Imperial Public Library and archival documents to acquire the famous collection of Bishop Porfiry (Uspensky) - all of this is presented in the materials of the new virtual exhibition "Petersburg sheet Miroslav Gospel", dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the monument in storage at the National Library of Russia.

The Petersburg sheet of Miroslav Gospel of XII century - a monument of writing common Slavic heritage, with initials, unparalleled in its ornamentation - entered the Imperial Public Library Foundation as part of a large collection of Bishop Porfiry (Uspensky). In 1885, the official information about this valuable acquisition became public - Report of the Imperial Public Library for 1883 contains a description of the sheet.

Since then, carefully preserved in the walls of the Manuscript Department the Petersburg sheet of Miroslav Gospel is an integral part of not only the collection of Bishop Porfiry, but also a historical manuscript of collections of the first public library in Russia.
