Exhibitions: Permanent exposition “Secrets of the Church of the Ascension” in Kolomenskoye

The Museum "Kolomenskoye" (Moscow), in the basement of the Church of the Ascension, opened a permanent exhibition "Secrets of the Church of the Ascension".

Church of the Ascension is the pearl of Russian national architecture and a masterpiece of world architecture. This is one of three sites in Moscow, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List (along with the Kremlin and Novodevichy Convent). From the moment of consecration (1532) it is an architectural dominant in the ensemble of the grand and royal palaces of Kolomenskoye.

This is a unique example of the interaction of artistic traditions - Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic and Old - linking them together as part of the architecture of the European Renaissance. The Church of the Ascension is the first stone church marquee in Russia.

A new exposition clearly introduces with a history of the church. In the vestibule basement are concentrated materials that help learning more about the history and architecture of the church of the Ascension, almost half a thousand year life, unique details of the history of restoration. Funds of the Museum are presented by never exhibited dimensioned drawings, photographs, projects of architect of the XIX-XX centuries, the original fragments of the original white-stone decor of the XVI century of the Church of the Ascension and other objects, found during excavations.
