Russian culture abroad: The State Russian Museum opens the first foreign branch in Spain
The State Russian Museum opens its first overseas branch. It starts working on February 25, 2015 in Malaga (Spain). The agreement between the museum and the city authorities will act for at least ten years.
In its branch the State Russian Museum will organize annually three exhibitions: two temporal that will work for six months, and one constant.
According to the museum, Malaga has been chosen by chance - in this major tourist destination it is home to the largest Russian community in Spain.
The first permanent exhibition "Russian Art of the XV-XX centuries" will present about 100 paintings by Venetsianov, Briullov, Tropinin, Levitan, Serov, Kustodiev, Repin and other masters.
In the first temporary exhibition "Russian art of the era Diaghilev" will be exhibited 69 works - paintings, drawings and sculptures by Bakst, Vrubel, Golovin, Goncharova, Levitan.
For the first time residents of Spain will see paintings of avant-garde artist Pavel Filonov. The second temporal exposition is dedicated to his work and life.
The branch is located in a former tobacco factory La Tabacalera built in 1920. The State Russian Museum premises are allocated about 2.3 million square meters.
