Society and culture: The Winter Arts Festival, dedicated to the anniversary of the opening of the XXII Winter Olympic Games, starts in Sochi

February 13, 2015 in the Sochi Winter Theatre with a solemn gala-concert starts the VIII Winter International Arts Festival by Yuri Bashmet in Sochi.

According to producer of the festival and director general of the Russian concert agency Dmitry Grinchenko, notable for the fact of the first post-Olympic festival, as some people saw in the project solely Olympic sight.

- We want, - says Grinchenko, - Winter Festival to be more noticeable in the world, to bring together guests and friends not only in Russia.

- Together with the ITAR-TASS, - says producer, - we will conduct training of young journalists from the region, because without practice of covering large cultural events it is difficult to learn a profession…There is a lot of exciting exhibitions connected to the large number of museums. This International Competition and exhibition of video art "Echo - Eco"; an exhibition dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Tchaikovsky, together with M. I. Glinka Museum of Musical Culture; an exhibition dedicated to Vaslav Nijinsky, in conjunction with the Theatre Museum Bakhrushin; an exhibition dedicated to silent film actors, together with the Museum of Cinema; an exhibition dedicated to Soviet composers of the second half of the 20th century, together with the M. I. Glinka Museum of Musical Culture; the exhibition "The history of festivals in Sochi". The Winter Theatre will turn into a huge exhibition hall.

At the Winter Festival this year Yuri Bashmet will present a solo program "Benefit viola", devoted to music by Russian composers of the second half of the XX century. Ballet evening with the participation of European stars dedicated to Vaslav Nijinsky. One of chamber concerts and closing ceremonies is in honor of the 175th anniversary of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the International Tchaikovsky Contest.
