Society and culture: The first Russian exhibition of Hungarian artist Munkacsy in Moscow

March 30, 2015 in the main building of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow) is opened the exhibiton "Around Munkácsy". In six halls of the Gallery of Art in Europe and America of the XIX-XX centuries will be demonstrated 21 pictures from the National Gallery of Hungary. The exhibition also includes works by Russian artists, whose work influenced to Mihály Munkácsy, and pictures of Europeans who worked with him at one time.

Mihály Munkácsy - a prominent representative of European painting in the second half of the XIX century. In the artist's work different trends and genres are reflected: he portrayed the life of Hungarian peasants in a realistic manner, wrote cabin scenes, portraits, landscapes.

Social themes of his early works Mihály Munkácsy was close to artists-peredvizhniki. Russian artists and critics who came to Paris Salon, highly appreciated his work. In particular, Ilya Repin noted high artistic quality of the works of the Hungarian master.

The exhibition will run until June 28, 2015.
