History and culture: The exhibition “M. N. Chernyshevsky. Curotor, Educator, Chronicler” in Saratov

Art gallery "Phoenix 94" (Saratov) is hosting an exhibition "M. N. Chernyshevsky. Curator, Educator, Chronicler", to the 95th anniversary of the Museum of N. G. Chernyshevsky.

The name of the youngest son of Nikolai Gavrilovich Chernyshevsky, Mikhail Nikolayevich, is well known in connection with the creation in 1920 of the Museum of N. G. Chernyshevsky - the first literary museum in Saratov.

In material collected and saved by M. Chernyshevsky is presented 200 year history of the family and outstanding ordinary names of stormy social life of the 1860s of the XIX century, reflected the emergence of a new society in the 1920s. These artifacts formed the basis of the museum's collection.

Among the manuscripts, documents, memorial items is released a collection of over 500 unique photos of 1888-1924's, authored by M. N. Chernyshevsky.

The value of photography, which M. Chernyshevskaya was engaged in throughout life to preserve fleeting moments of time, was well understood. Amateur Photographer has become a true professional who received awards at the Russian and foreign exhibitions.

The collection includes images of people representing the elite of the artistic and scientific intelligentsia of the XIX-XX centuries - the circle of acquaintances of M. N. Chernyshevsky. Among them - the Russian religious thinker, philosopher V. S. Soloviev, academician A. A. Shakhmatov, historian N. P. Kondakov, artist K. K. Pervukhin, engraver V. V. Mate and others.

A special iconographic value is portrait and species photographs, including images of family and close people of M. N. Chernyshevsky. These pictures of mother - Olga Sokratovna Chernyshevsky, wife - Helena Matveevna, children – Marianna, twins Lena and Nina, son Nicholas, pictures of the family Pypin.

 Family Chronicles, self-portraits views of Saratov, Astrakhan, St. Petersburg - places associated with the name of N. G. Chernyshevsky, the Volga landscapes, famous people and scenes of popular life - pictures were taken with an amazing artistic integrity and freedom.

Exhibition of photographs representing a portion of the museum's collection, will allow to get acquainted with interesting phenomena of the cultural scale - chronicle of the life of the Russian intelligentsia in the flow of a past age, will awaken interest in the country's history, the city's history, the history of the traditions of family and social nature through "imprinted instant" photograph.

The exhibition runs until April 13, 2015.
